The Sanlan Recreation Area is a privately
owned recreation area. It is famous for its natural beauty
and compares favorably with many of the state parks.
The area consists of approx. 600 acres of wooded land
that was mined for phosphate in the 1930's and 1940's. Both the
Sanlan RV Park and the Bramble Ridge Golf Course are
part of Sanlan Recreation Area.
The land is very fertile and was left in a very rugged
state by the mining process. Miles of hiking trails were
constructed in the late 1960's by flattening the tops of
ridges left from the mining process. With the passage of
time, trees have grown on the side slopes of the ridges and
most of the trails are now shaded.
The property is
bounded
on the south by Banana Lake and there are great
numbers of water birds that inhabit the area.
There are Eagle's
nests in the vicinity and both eagles and ospreys are frequently observed fishing in Banana Lake. Audubon members take delight in the area and the site is one used annually by Audubon members to conduct their annual bird
count.
Mopeds and golf carts of registered campers
are permitted on the trails of Sanlan RV Park.
ATV's, motorcycles, and private
autos are not permitted.
